Sons of Silence (SOOS) Project: 2nd Newsletter Release

We’re excited to share the latest from the Sons of Silence (SOOS) project with the release of their 2nd newsletter! This project, aimed at addressing youth and gender violence, has been actively engaging communities and stakeholders across Europe.

Understanding the Sons of Silence (SOOS) Project

The aim of the SOOS project is to raise awareness about the potential impact of domestic violence on youth and to highlight the risks of experiencing domestic violence and its potential effects on the physical, emotional, and psychological health of youth. The SOOS project also aims to provide resources and support to those affected by domestic violence and to educate the public on preventative measures. Ultimately, the SOOS project endeavors to reduce the prevalence of domestic violence in our society and create safer and healthier environments for young people.

Newsletter Highlights

  • Welcoming Events: Partners organized events to gather key local figures involved in juvenile and gender violence. The goal was to foster collaboration and set future action plans.
  • Discussion Groups: Following the welcoming events, discussion groups were implemented in each partner country. These groups promoted civic engagement and collected data on domestic violence procedures and challenges.
  • Youth Survey: A survey was conducted among young individuals who have directly or indirectly experienced domestic violence. The insights from these groups and surveys contributed to a comprehensive report on the impact of domestic violence on victims.
  • LTTA in Berlin, Germany: The SOOS project’s Learning, Teaching, Training Activity (LTTA) took place in Berlin from September 30th to October 2nd. Youth workers from each partner organization participated in the training and provided feedback on the developed training program.

During the training, the participants discussed and explored key modules, including:

  • Basic terminology of domestic violence
  • Understanding trauma and resilience
  • Identification and response to domestic violence
  • Child protection and safeguarding

In addition, they talked about how to support young people affected by domestic violence, self-care, and burnout prevention for youth workers. The participants visited the Heroes initiative in Berlin, where they met and listened to the experiences of young people.
